The Michigan State University Spartans logo won’t be changing as a result of Spartan supporter backlash. The unfortunate reality is that now thousands, probably hundreds of thousands, of dollars have been lost on the effort that went in to redesigning the logo and preparing for its rollout.
As a non-biased judge, i.e. not a Spartan fan, I actually like the new logo (on the right) better: it’s cleaner, stronger and more modern. But for me that won’t drive any kind of loyalty or apparel purchases so my opinion probably doesn’t matter all that much.
My main issue is that most people are inherently opposed to change so the question becomes should MSU have gone ahead with the logo change and let their many outspoken supporters eventually adjust and come along for the ride or did they make the right decision in listening to their community? What do you think and where do you draw the line in doing what your community asks?
